Songs Of The Month – February

Hi! :)

There’s less than a week left of February, so I’m here with the list of songs I listened to the most this month. February was the time when I really got into the band X Ambassadors and I’m so glad I did! I heard some of their songs before in commercials, but I never knew those were theirs, so I was very surprised to hear those familiar songs again – now knowing they created them. One song in paricular, called Gorgeous became my absolute favourite this month, especially the Upstate Sessions version. I also started to listen to Lose It by Oh Wonder again after them releasing a music video for it recently. As I did a presentation of the movie Paper Towns earlier this month, I was jamming to the whole movie soundtrack for hours (and I love all the tunes on it). Lost It To Trying gives a magical feeling and that’s why I like it so much. I included two Hungarian Eurovision songs competing this year (results will be out tomorrow). The two that I’m rooting for are the songs by Freddie and Petruska. I really hope one of them wins and gets to represent Hungary in the Eurovision. Check those songs out, I think they’re amazing! Here’s the list, but as usual, the songs are not in any particular order.

  1. We Don’t Talk Anymore – Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez
  2. Lose It – Oh Wonder
  3. Renegades – X Ambassadors
  4. Gorgeous – X Ambassadors (Upstate Sessions)
  5. Lost It To Trying – Son Lux
  6. Unsteady – X Ambassadors
  7. Ready For You – Years & Years (Acoustic)
  8. Pioneer – Freddie
  9. Trouble In My Mind – Petruska
  10. Stressed Out – twenty one pilots

What are some of your favourite songs of February? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me, I’d love to know! Have a lovely day! See you soon! :)

Love, Tanya by Tanya Burr| Book Review

Hi! :)

Since I haven’t done a book review in a while, I thought now’s the time for it. It won’t be that long though, but I still wanted to share my opinion on this book that I’m going to talk about. As you all know, I love watching Youtube videos. Nowadays more and more Youtubers get the opportunity to get a book published. I don’t really get into that topic, so I’m only going to say that I have one or two Youtuber books. A book called Love, Tanya by Tanya Burr is not an exception.

I read Love, Tanya in January, even though I had it sitting on my shelf for a while. I was very interested in reading the book, just hadn’t got the time for it – or at least I had not bothered doing so. Usually I read a book in a couple of days, but this one lasted for about 2 weeks. I thought the book is very long considering what it is about, which is lifestyle, fashion, beauty, baking, etc. It kept me wanting to read more and I enjoyed it, but I realised that I don’t like biography-type books that much like a fiction novel.

I have to say, I think the book is very well structured and every chapter felt like it was at the right place in the book. I got to know a lot more facts about Tanya than through her videos, so it kept the book very intriguing. I love the idea of the lists she made in all of the chapters mainly at the end, where she listed her top 10 favourite things, memories or advice. This way the reader could get a bit more insight into her style, personality and the products she prefers using. She also wanted to get the readers involved in the book, so there were a few pages, where you could write down your answers to some of the questions by her.

There is a particular chapter in there, which I was probably the most excited for – and this is Baking. She mentions some of her favourite recipes in the baking chapter, some healthy and some not. Although I haven’t tried anything out yet, I can’t wait to bake something delicious cookies with the help of the book.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that I really like the cover, because it suits Tanya’s personality very well (from what I can see from her videos and blog posts), and the photography is escpecially nice as well.

Taken by me.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to read something fun and relaxing. It is a very nice, calming and light read full of advice. I enjoyed this book a lot, because I could get a few relaxing hours while reading it and it didn’t kept me tense throughout the book like let’s say a novel would. Have you read Love, Tanya? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me! See you soon!

Falling In Love With Books Again

Hi! :)

Since I haven’t written an update post for ages (the last one I wrote was in December), I thought that today’s the day to do one. I will talk about various things really, because there’s been such a lot going on in the last few weeks.

I have been so excited to read books again after my 10 Books From My Wishlist post, that I ordered some in English. I’m not a native English-speaker, so it’s not that easy to find good books in their original language here. However, for the last year or so I’ve tried to read more and more books in English so that I can improve my language skills a bit. Since I wrote that list, my to-read list became even bigger and I regained my love for books (finally!). I was the biggest bookworm in primary school, but in the last couple of years I couldn’t read as much as I wanted to. One day I stumbled across a video in which a girl discussed what her favourite books of 2015 were and I became incredibly excited about reading books. I looked up the story behind some of the books she had mentioned and created a Goodreads account. I started watching a ton of Booktube and I have to admit, I really like those videos. In fact, I subscribed to two Youtubers who only talk about books. I know, I might have become a little bit obsessed, but I’m totally okay with it. It’s just books, so no need to worry, haha. I stated reading a book yesterday and I’m already almost finished with it, so I’m very keen on seeing what’s next. The moral of the story is that you should make enough time to practice your hobby, because I certainly did not do that.

Munching on this month’s SourcedBox while reading

Slightly off topic, but my prom will be tomorrow. I think I am the only person in the universe who is not that eager about it. In my opinion it’s not that big of a deal here as in the USA, and even if it was I still wouldn’t look forward to it to be completely honest. It’s just not my type of event and I can’t wait for it to be over. Prom also reminds me of how close my final exams are getting and I’m terrified. The ‘applying for a university’ season also started, so it seems like someone’s screaming at me that “Finals are comiiiiing!”. But I decided to be the best I can be and smash those exams in a few months!

I have so many goals to achive this year that it’s insane. I really hope to be the strongest version of myself to be able to succeed in achiving them. Wish me luck for tomorrow, because we have to perform a class dance and I’m horrible at it! I’m so afraid that I’ll mess something up. Anyway, that’s what I wanted to chat about today, I hope you enjoyed reading it! Let me know in the comments what you’re up to these days or you can tweet me as well (@justkingablog)! See you soon! :)

P.S.: What do you think about Coldplay’s halftime show at the Super Bowl 50? I absolutely loved it!

This Is Acting – Sia | Album Review

Hi! :)

I had waited for so long for Sia‘s ‘This Is Acting album to come out, that I felt blessed when it finally was released a week ago. I have listened to the album a few times so far and I have to admit that I absolutely love it.

The album itself is titled This Is Acting, because Sia put together the songs she wrote for other artists, but were rejected. She decided to make an entire album out of those songs and she couldn’t have done better in my opinion. As you can probably guess, because these tunes were not initially written for herself, the album is very diverse concerning the different genres appearing on it. I will try to write a few sentences about each song of the album.

  1. Bird Set Free – It’s a song I have loved for a long time, because I think it has such a unique sound to it. As fas as I’m concerned Adele rejected this song, which I don’t mind at all. This song is so powerful and complements Sia’s voice beautifully. It was originally written for Pitch Perfect 2, which makes me so sad, I would have loved to hear it in the movie, since it’s one of my favourites.
  2. Alive – I adore this song. I love the lyrics and the rhythm, simply everything. It had been one of my favourites for months. Again, it was rejected by Adele. I have to repeat myself here, because it has such a powerful vibe and you feel like you can do anything after hearing this song.
  3. One Million Bullets – Surprisingly, this is the only song that Sia did not send to anyone and kept it for herself. I can understand it, because it suits Sia’s style perfectly. I still can’t get over what she can do with her voice in this song, it sounds incredibly hard to do.
  4. Move Your Body – You immediately think of Shakira when you hear this song. Yes, she rejected it. The rhythm is very upbeat and fun and would have suited Shakira’s style very well, I have no idea why she rejected this masterpiece.
  5. Unstoppable – It will be in my monthly favourites post, I can tell you right now. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It is really inspirational and speaks to my heart on a different level. I feel a close connection to this song and I’m not sure why Rihanna didn’t want to have this perfection on her album.
  6. Cheap Thrills – It’s basically the opposite of Bitch Better Have My Money by Rihanna, so if I look at this song, I completely understand now why Rihanna rejected it. I love Rihanna, so I don’t mind the Rihanna-vibe in this tune at all. It also has been in a couple of my ‘Songs Of The Month’ posts as well.
  7. Reaper – Yep, Rihanna again. Sia said in an interview that she thought it was a fun song, but did not anticipate it being on the record, she only put it on the album because her manager liked it. To be honest, it’s one of my least favourite songs from the album. I don’t feel a connection to it either. Although, I think that it is definitely a good song and it’s not a problem that it turned out to be on This Is Acting.
  8. House On Fire – The song was rejected by Katy Perry. I can’t say that much about this song, it is not one of my favourites, but for me personally, it’s a nice, relaxing song – don’t ask me why, I don’t know.
  9. Footprints – A Beyonce reject. In my opinion it very much sounds like a Beyonce song and she should have accepted the song. However, Sia made it sound magical.
  10. Sweet Design – I love how different it is. It was rejected by Beyonce, but it would have sounded amazing if she sang it. Don’t get me wrong, Sia sounds great in this song, it just isn’t her style at all. I like the song a lot though, especially because of its unique sound.
  11. Broken Glass – Demi Lovato rejected this song, but I can’t get around the reason why. It is a beautiful power ballad and I would never have guessed that it wasn’t written for Sia herfelf, because it is very similar to Sia’s usual songs in my opinion.
  12. Space Between – Sia originally offered this song to Rihanna, then asked for it back because she loved it so much. This is a heavenly ballad and compliments Sia’s voice unbelievably.

All in all, I am very satisfied with how the album turned out and I like the idea that she put together an entire album full of rejected songs. I think it’s amazing. I have never been disappointed in any Sia songs in my life, to be honest, and for me she is one of the most talented artists in the world right now, she’s incredible.

What do you think of This Is Acting? Do you enjoy it? Let me know in the comments below, or on Twitter, my username is @justkingablog. I hope you enjoyed reading this post and got inspired to listen to her album if you haven’t already.

I also have an announcement today. I decided to try my best to stick to a Friday upload on my blog. I tried to follow this schedule last year, but not always managed to and so far this year’s upload schedule has been all over the place. So this means that there will be a new post every Friday (I will try my best), and sometimes I will post bonus posts as well if I have something exciting to tell you. That’s all I had to say for now, I hope you’re having a lovely day. See you soon! :)
